It's Dirty Dancing - a Truly Classic 80's Movie.

The classic 80's romance film, Dirty Dancing, premiered in 1987 as a low budget film and quickly became an overnight sensation. The on screen chemistry between Jennifer Grey (Frances 'Baby' Houseman) and Patrick Swayze (Johnny Castle) captured hearts everywhere. The music, the summer nights, the romance, the conflict, the dancing... it all made this movie one worthy of being called a classic.

The movie was written by Eleanor Bergstein, who according to a December 2008 interview with her, says that the characters of Baby and Johnny were both influenced by Bergstein's own biography. Like Baby, she came from a liberal Jewish family who visited Catskills resorts in the 1960's, her father was a doctor, she was nicknamed "Baby" until she was 22 years old, and she was a skilled "dirty dancer" who learned at house parties and later became an Arthur Murray instructor. She even makes a cameo appearance in the movie playing as a guest who dances with Johnny Castle.

The director, Emile Ardolino, really captures the essence of the story; the honesty, the purity, and the passion that such a once in a lifetime love endures; and the dancing and music in Dirty Dancing is exactly what makes it one of the greatest dance movies ever made. I bet you have already scene it and know what I'm talking about, but if you haven't, it's always worth the time.

The story inspired a second film, Dirty Dancing - Havanah Nights (2004). It also shaped a popular theatre act based on the original script that performs all over the world and is quickly making its way into Broadway. Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage, broke records in London where it opened on October 24, 2006 at the historic Aldwych Theater. Before it even opened , the show had sold out for the first six months of its run. The famous scene where Johnny and Baby are practicing and are crawling towards each other on the floor wasn't intended to be part of the film; they were just warming up to do the real scene, but the director liked it so much he kept in the film.
