It's a Gas, Gas, Gas

When the gas prices started to rise beyond reason, there was a gas station cheaper than all the other stations in the area and I used to try to stop there whenever I was running low, no matter how long the line or how rude the owner. I remember telling him one day when he said something I didn't like after filling the tank, "Oh goody...A condescending horses' ass. No thank you, I already have one at home".

My husband never liked me stopping there because of him, but the prices were hard to argue with, so he too would take his truck there when he was in the area. One time, he saw two women he assumed were prostitutes "paying" for their gas without the need for cash, engaging the two attendants on duty in an unmentionable act in both the front and back seats of their car. I was glad when he said the two women refused to accommodate the rude owner when he tried to get into the car after their transaction was completed. My husband started calling the place BJ Gas, saying things like, "That place puts a whole new spin on 'fill her up' or 'self serve'.", saying that their prices are always "going down". The station eventually was closed when the owner was arrested for tax evasion and money laundering, and that was unfortunate for him regardless of how rude he had been to me and his gas station is missed, but at least the bad jokes stopped.

The prices fell considerably recently, but they coincidentally rise and fall, depending on the holiday season. Have you noticed? I noticed. Our government doesn't notice, though. The activities of big business often go unnoticed, even when they are bragging in the headlines of record profits year after year. How is that so? If there is a shortage in the market for the key ingredient of the product manufactured by the industry, how do they do so well? And what causes the price to fluctuate so regularly with the big travel holidays? How lucky they must be. Yup, it must surely be luck.
