It's a Happy Day to Graduate

Gwen Navarrete
It's a bright spring day in Princeton
I'm wearing white, carrying coral roses
It's not my wedding; it's graduation
A Sacred Heart tradition
Twenty-three young women
Off to college and paths unknown

It's a cold winter day in Wichita
My family indoors in the stands
Cheering and hollering for my cousin
A single mom of four, smiling wide
Shouting in silent victory
"I did it, I really did it!"

It's a warm summer day in Vegas
Supporting diploma receiving friends
Smiling at their accomplishments
Ceremonies held in event arenas
Concession stands are open, what?
Good times definitely had by all

It's always a happy day to graduate
Different times, distant places
Same emotions, well earned praise
For hard work, struggles, effort, pride
Growth, challenges, and opportunities
Congratulations to seniors everywhere
