We all know those folks who are being driven to please others. They are running around like their main purpose in life is to please. It really is an exhausting thought. You ask why? It is because it is impossible to please everyone. That does not mean you cannot get it right, it means that no matter what, we are all different. Do they do it so that they feel they have self worth? Then it is totally a self-esteem issue. If this is you and you can identify with what I just said, then STOP IT NOW!!!!!
You are a prized individual. You have self worth and have a purpose in this life. You are most definitely not here to please everyone else. You know you would tell your best friend this but would not believe it for yourself. We need to take care of yourself so that we can feel good and then, and ONLY THEN, you can assist others.
It is almost a sickness for people. Did you ever hear a woman whose last child is off to college and she is so depressed because her job in life is seemingly over? How crazy is that? When we raise our children, all of their life is spent in our teaching them the skills they will need to leave the nest. But then when they do, some folks are so heartbroken they cannot bear to carry on. They feel they have no purpose now. We need to remind these poor sad souls that they had a life once where they had hobbies, fun things to do, events they enjoyed, etc... It's a simple thing to think about. This is now their time.
There are those people that will take advantage of you EVERY TIME if you allow it. They will try to tell you how to handle things, they will control you if they can, and they will get you to do anything they can, if you let them. Most of the time, if you needed help, these people would be too busy.
Life is so short, and the very thought of doing for everyone else and nothing for yourself, is a scary, sad thought. Sometimes people don't allow themselves to enjoy anything. They look at it as a frivolous waste of time, when they could be useful to someone. I am not in any way saying not to do the good work, I am saying not to do it if it is costing you time in your own life.
Maybe what we need to do is make a list and see what we have done for ourselves in the last week, month, etc... Then make a list of service you have provided to others. Is it in balance? It does not have to be elaborate. It can be a s simple as starting that new novel you had put off, or treating yourself to a manicure. Do something good for yourself. Treat yourself. Your life is a gift that can be taken at anytime. LIVE IT!
