Do you love to read? If so, celebrate today, because it's National Read a Book Day on September 6. Celebrate this special day by...you guessed it...reading a book!
You don't like to read? Really? Well how about taking some time today to make a trip to your local library and check out (no pun intended) what services they have to offer. My local public library may be small but it's mighty in what it has to offer to my tiny community. There are DVDs available for check out (free--great if you're trying to live frugally), computers with Internet access and free wifi available. Current issues of magazines are available as well as audio books and soon, my library will have e-books available for patrons.
You may not like to read novels, but what about reading a book about your favorite hobby? Do you like to garden, build things, tinker with cars or motorcycles, raise animals, or some other type of hobby? You can bet your local library has books and information that can help you.
If they don't have what you're looking for at the facility, they can get it for you. Most libraries are interconnected and can request books and materials from other libraries elsewhere in the country.
Many libraries also offer community programs--classes, free movies, exercise groups, support groups, book clubs, kids clubs and more.
So today, on National Read a Book Day, pick up a book and pick up the phone--to find out more about your local library. You'll find the world at your fingertips!
