It's Not About Me, by Michelle Sutton - Book Review

Denise
This is a Christian book for young adults, but someone older would definitely enjoy reading it too, like I have.
I have to admit though, that I haven't read many YA Christian fiction books. The ones I have were good, but they were a long time ago when I was young, and was nothing like this one!

Annie is the heroine who has it all, looks, brains, friends, great parents and a boyfriend who's crazy about her. There's just one thing wrong. She's practically perfect in every way. Then a tragedy happens to her and the perfect world that she has created for herself is destroyed. Two brothers, battle each other over her and Annie has a serious decision to make. Which brother does she really love? While discovering that, she finds out who's love is the most unconditional, unswerving love most all.

This is a great YA book. I think many people try to make Christians out to be prim and perfect, but this book portrays what it is like to be a Christian in the real world. We've got the main character, the heroine, who appears to be perfect-but isn't and two men in love with her-Whoo-Hoo! These men are brothers and I love that conflict in the story. One lives by the bible, Dan, and the other Tony has strayed out in the world. Tony has some serious problems. He's an alcoholic, and is friends with a non Christian who likes naughty magazines. You can see, when you read the beginning of the book where Tony's mind is.

Dan, however, is the good son, that his parents treat poorly and treasure Tony, the youngest who always does the wrong thing. The parents role in this was good to read also. Sutton sends a subtle message to parents and children with that part of the story. There are so many real world issues in this book- that is what makes it great. I was a little annoyed, at the main character Annie when she couldn't choose who she wanted to be with. I'm like, 'come on!' It should be obvious. Another part of the story, Annie wants Dan to 'prove' something to her, that was just a little too personal, and Dan stood his ground and wouldn't do it. That part was funny, but annoying too, but in the end, all is well. I'm sure everyone who picks up this book would enjoy reading it.
