It's Not How Much Money You Make...

It's What You Make of What You Earn

Almost everyone dreams of being rich... having a beautiful house with nice things and an exotic car, perhaps. Most people think they can only obtain these things if they made more money. The fact is that it is already greatly possible with what you are already making now. The key is learning how to get the most out what you earn.

First, you must learn how to budget your money. Learning how to budget is simple. Start by sitting down with a pencil and paper, make a list of all the sources of income you receive on a monthly basis. Such income may include your job and/or money you make on Associated Content. Once you have made your list add up everything and you have your total average monthly income.

Then, on a separate sheet of paper make a list of your average monthly expenses. Such expenses may include your mortgage or rent, utilities, phone, groceries, auto payments, insurance, gasoline, clothing, credit cards, etc... For each expense put the estimated dollar amount next to it. Now add up all of your average monthly expenses and compare it to your total income. Your income should be at least twice the amount of your total debt. I personally prefer it to be three times, however many times this can be more difficult. Now, you have figured out where you stand and now you need to figure out what you need to do to make your debt to income ratio match this rule.

Take a look at your list and start by eliminating things you don't necessarily need. Such things may include a home telephone if you have a cell phone or clothing --- it isn't absolutely necessary to purchase new clothing every month. You can find ways to use what you already have.

You can learn how to save money on utilities by keeping the lights off when no one is in a particular room or keeping the thermostat set at a given temperature at all times. You can save money on water by using the dishwasher (if you have one) versus washing dishes by hand. Try lowering your cell phone plan and usage to save money there too. Take some time to educate yourself on insurance and possible discounts that may be available to you in your state. To save money at the grocery store consider generic brands, also cut and utilize coupons.

It is helpful to refrain from making impulse buys and assume more debt. Get your mind into the mode of thinking more creatively. What I mean by this is learning to use what you already have and recognizing the things you probably don't really need. If you have a lot of things you find to be useless or you aren't using anymore, gather them together and have a yard sale. Not only will you free your home of clutter, you will also make some extra cash in the process.

Here are some additional tips to help you save your money and control your spending:

- If you are a smoker, consider cutting back, switching to a cheaper brand, or quitting all together. You'd be surprised at how much money comes out of your pocket to buy cigarettes.

- Avoid borrowing money as this generally assumes more debt --- such as, having to pay interest along with the original amount owed.

- Consider putting a percentage of your earnings into a savings account and think of it as a bill that must be paid each month. This is a great way to earn money from interest while you save.

- STOP WORKING OVERTIME FOR THINGS YOU DON'T NEED!

Remember, it's not how much you make... it's what you make of what you earn.
