It's Patton -- a Professor Lensworthy Movie Review

Another SNL Skit Gets the Multiplex Treatment Based on the Assumption that There is a Paying Audience Out There for Just About Anything

It's Patton

U.S. 1998 91m color *

Rated PG for bathroom humor and a running gag about misidentified feminine hygeine products.

Review: Yes, Gloria Sweeney is funny but Pat, her recurring androgynous misfit from the one-joke SNL skit is merely confusing. When Pat is mistakenly presumed to be the new General assigned to the 53rd Tank Battalion, no one can tell if she (he?) is a man or a woman. This gender bender farce tried to take on a variety of military taboos with limited success. And this sort of material was handled with much more dash and aplomb by Danny Kaye in 1949's The Inspector General (remember that, anyone?). Apparently the days of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. and MacHale's Navy aren't completely over. Don't ask. Don't tell. Don't bother.

Cast: Gloria Sweeney, Jon Lovitz, Tim Matheson, Danny Bravo, Paul Reubens, Danny Bonaduce, Phil Lamarr, Ving Rhames

Released indirectly to video by Phantom Philms, though copies are extremely difficult to come by.

Trivia: This is the first acting of any sort done by Danny Bravo since appearing as the voice of Haji opposite Tim Matheson's Jonny Quest in the 1960s.
