It's in the Purse

J.E. Ward
Every time I dig in my cave of a purse
For keys, lip gloss, money or a pen

I see It sitting stubbornly in there
"Open me" it begs of me again

I'm too cowardly to face it right now
So I quietly move it out of my way

Reminding myself I will have to
Read and see what It will say

What will the verdict or the decision show?
What is the date that they have given me?

Worse, what if the date has already past
Because I was too timid to open and see?

My hands tremble, my heart flutters
I'm so ashamed of my irresponsibility

How I wish that It would just go away
While It sits in my purse waiting for me

Until I get the courage to open It up
I'll live in suspense and unnecessary fear

Finally I take out the letter to read
I realize that the It I fear is already here.

How true. I had avoided cleaning out mine until about a week ago, when I spilled half a cup of coffee in it. Oops....

So been there. I just read the book, Pretty Neat about organization. I hope that it will help me to be better organized and to deal with things in spite of fear or worry, maybe it will.

Some letters do that. When I get bills and do not have the money to pay I stack them on the piano till I can open them knowing I can pay them. It is like refusing to acknowledge the bad news inside :) great article!
