It's a Small World of Blissfully Ignorant People

New Year's resolution: I am throwing away every tattered souvenir of kindness that has never been reciprocated. I have assessed the value of the people in my life and was stunned to see how little some were worth despite the time and effort I lavish on them.

Self centered arrogant people who think the rest of the world is as dumb as they are and only exists for their personal benefit have been granted too much consideration. As much as they take, use, and abuse others is as much as they will receive from people as blissfully ignorant as they are. Their thinly veiled lies and half truths of omission fool no one. Their mindless posts and the drones who respond with equal arrogance are merely lists of the nothingness they have to look forward to. Past indiscretions have not been forgotten and new ones only add to the already too long list.

I endure and flourish while they stick to a place they should have outgrown long ago. Isn't that the saddest thing you have ever heard? I am no longer a slave to being a loyal friend, confidant, or trusted family member. Though you may not realize or even care, you are being exorcised from my life; one incident, one person at a time. My misplaced sense of obligation to people who have no other obligation than to themselves has been redirected. I refuse to be hurt by your inconsiderate actions, carry you through your laziness, or pay your way because you have indulged in frivolity. I refuse to always be there for you when you have never been there for me. I reject your belittling of me and my accomplishments in an effort to bolster your self-image.

The best advice I ever received was to disengage from detrimental situations; sucking my emotional stability, and stabbing at the core of my good and giving nature. If it seems I'm not listening to the nonsense you spew, I'm not. I will not be your reliable friend when your disgusting behavior causes your abandonment. I will not be your sounding board or help you pick up the pieces of your shattered life when your repeated bad choices shred your dignity. I am not willing to be part of your drama. I will not waste time on you.

Enjoy your blissful ignorance. I once thought I would like to experience it myself but then I thought better of it. I would hate me if I was anything like you and that seems to be the only way to get there. The irony of this piece is those of you these statements apply to think it's about you. It's not.

To those not being exorcised but still reading this I am thrilled to know you. I am humbled at the privilege of being part of your life.
