It's Time to Boycott BP

BP Needs to Feel the Gulf Coast's Pain

Tony Daniels
It has been 50-plus days since an offshore oil rig operated by BP Oil Company exploded causing a massive oil leak in The Gulf of Mexico which has yet to be stopped.

While the gulf literally drowns in oil, BP has displayed what can only be described as a cavalier attitude toward the situation.

The American public has grown weary of BP's continued failed efforts to stop the leak and their seemingly unconcerned attitude to move with any expedience in solving the problem.

All this is coming on the heels of BP reporting a record profit for the first quarter of this year. A fact that doesn't rest well with many Americans.

BP's slothful actions are shameful and the remarks recently given by the company's chief executive can only be described as "without a clue."

BP's Chief Executive Officer, Tony Hayward, in a nationally televised quote stated that he "wanted his life back," as though the oil spill in the gulf had somehow interrupted his life and he was ready to get back to his regular routine.

This statement was a slap in the face to residents and businessmen who make a living out of the waters that BP's oil spill has polluted.

Hayward's statement clearly displayed the ivory tower attitude of those who are so far up the economic ladder that they no longer identify with the common man.

It is that attitude displayed by Hayward and BP that prompts me to say it is time to officially boycott BP.

BP Oil Company has made billions of dollars off of the American consumer and yet in the midst of this disaster, they show a total disregard for the very same consumer that has made them one of the richest oil companies in the world.

The ecological, environmental and economic damage being done to the gulf coast will undoubtedly last for years and BP seems only concerned with preserving it's own image which will enable it to continue to rake in record profits in the future.

It is time for the American public to send BP a clear, strong message in a way that they will understand.

Stop buying BP products.

Unfortunately, it's not so simple. Boycotting buying BP only harms the tens of thousands of Americans either that own BP gas stations or work there. BP will make their money, no matter what. I do agree with you though, BP should be paying and paying and paying for this.
