It's Your Weigh so Now What?

In today's society we as Americans our gradually embracing the idea of being healthy and fit. Falling victim to the fast food genre that has left so many of us on the larger side of the scale and exposed to many health conditions that we are becoming more increasingly aware of our diet. For example, on a Friday night a family's usual dine out night is being replaced with a fast more health conscious meal at home. It still saves mom the grilling duty of slaving over the stove and it helps to produce a healthier family. There are several sites online and in magazines that offer quick, delicious, low calorie meals to choose from. It's also important that the routine begins at home to promote healthier eating because children can learn bad habits at a greater pace than good ones.

If every weekend is packed with McDonalds, Wendy's and Taco Bell then they will carry that tradition into adulthood, which will cause obesity and unwanted health problems. The numbers are staggering at how many Americans are overweight. We have often being referred to as the "Fat Country" by others as a result of our carefree eating. We have been so liberated in everything. The freedom of speech, expression and choice has caused us the freedom to embrace whatever and however much we want to eat.

Something that's also taking America by storm is our increasing need to exercise. We have so many paid programs offering that one machine that will "do it all" to assist with shedding those unwanted pounds. We may pack on more than enough tacos and burgers in a weekend but we guilt strikingly pull out a pair of gym shoes to go jog or walk. We are also battling the treadmills, bikes, and the latest "do it all" machines. In addition, we are also developing a love and hate relationship with the gyms across the country. Who doesn't have a membership at a Bally's or a Curve? As a nation we are embracing the idea of being healthy and this is our way of responding to the attack of the pounds. We even have several magazines dedicated to healthy living and exercise because one thing as Americans we have always been is conscious of our image.

A society driven by its looks. We have produced some of the most beautiful people in the world and take pride in it as you can see by the size one models that grace the pages of the most affluent and recognized magazines on America's newsstands. Which has in many cases led to an unfair and unrealistic portrayal to the younger people in our society what it is to be fit. So many have come from households that endorsed the "fast food" chain into a society that is now abstaining from it. So I guess, I'm asking in this ever changing and ongoing battle to fight the bulge. How do you weigh in?
