Cancer affects everyone even the greatest politicians of this world. Colon cancer is a disease that affects many Canadians each year. In 2011, over 25,000 men had developed prostate cancer. Close to 5,000 men have died have died from this form of cancer. The good news is that this cancer can be beat. There is roughly a 96 percent survival rate after 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Canadians including Montrealers over the age of 50 should go to the hospital for a colonoscopy at least every five years to protect themselves against this disease.

Jack Layton is a role model for healthy and sick people everywhere

Jack Layton returned to politics and lead his party to victory. For the first time in Canadian history the New Democratic Party reached the status of Royal Opposition Party. Jack had aspirations of being the prime minister of Canada but sadly that was not meant to be. Jack Layton developed a new undisclosed cancer and that cancer took his life.

Canadians everywhere were shocked. People were crying in the streets and have been crying ever since. People came in droves to his see his funeral procession. It is the first time in history that a politician who was not the Prime Minister of Canada received a state funeral. Now Canadians are watching his funeral service. He will live forever in the hearts of Canadians.

Jack left us with a few words, this Montreal examiner would like to share them with you at this time.

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world." [From Jack Layton's last letter, written to Canadians on his death bed].
