Jack's Big Music Show on Noggin

My son has been addicted to the Wiggle show ever since we started putting it on the Disney Channel. After many many many months of watching this show I was about to go nuts. All I could do was hear the songs in my head day and night. I couldn't even fall asleep because I had the songs stick in my head. We love the show but there comes a time you just have to change the channel! I tried a lot of different new shows for my son but they weren't grabbing his attention the way the Wiggle Show did. I didn't know what else to do. I just knew I couldn't listen to Big Red Car one more time.

Over the summer my son was taking swimming lessons at a friend's house. She happened to have had Jack's Big Music Show on TV. My son stopped what he was doing and was mesmerized by this show. I asked my friend about it and she said it was called Jack's Big Music Show and I could find it on Noggin. (Cablevision channel 123). I figured hey it couldn't hurt to try it.

The first thing I did when I went home was put this show on. I automatically DVR's (or Tivo'd) this program to record daily. I wasn't sure my son was going to still be interested in it. As soon as the first episode started playing I could see my son's eyes light up. I think he remembered watching it from my friend's house. I was so excited that he was interested in it. I called my husband and told him what I had discovered.

Let me explain what the show is about. The show is full of music, singing, dancing, skits, etc...His favorite segment is called the "Shwartzmen Quartet". This is when Barber Shop singers come in. This show is all done my puppeteers. I find myself watching as well. The music is great. Very lively and fun. It ranges from classical music (violins) to jazz to rap to just about any genre you can think of. The show is structured in such a way that my son knows what to expect. When one of the main characters rings a bell attached to a TV screen my son knows that a music video skit is about to come on. He starts to point to the TV and try to get our attention. He likes to make sure we are watching with him.

The main characters are Jack and Mary. Jack has a clubhouse in his backyard where all of this takes place. His dog plays the drums. They have famous and not so famous real life singers come on too. The main one is Laurie Berkner. She's great. I heard that she performed a concert in Central Park, NY. I wish I was able to have gone. Another famous singer that has been on the show is Lisa Loeb. She's great too. She sings a very catchy tune that my son loves. He always points to her and says "MAMA". I guess he thinks I look like her but I don't see it. A lot of the songs that they sing have a message to them. I don't know if my son fully understands the songs but he loves the tune. I would say the show is geared for children but adults can enjoy it too. I often catch my husband staring at the TV. I don't tell him though.

The tunes in this show are very catchy. They really keep my son's attention through the whole episode. When it is over my son says, "More Show". Adorable. You can also go on the website. It is interactive with the show. My babysitter played the songs for him on the computer. She didn't know how to work the TV but was able to make my son happy by using the interactive website. How great was that!

Nothing in the show is inappropriate. Everything is perfect for this age. I hope to keep playing this show for for quite a while. He loves it and so do I! I hope they don't change the voices of the puppeteers. They are perfect. The next thing I want to do is buy the DVD of Jack's Big Music Show. This way my son can enjoy it when we go for car rides. Right now we are still in the Wiggle stage in the car but I am going to transition him to Jack's Big Music Show.
