Jacksonville Halloween Attractions for Every Age

Erin Thursby

Halloween has a lot to offer revelers in Jacksonville and the surrounding area, but different events cater to different age groups. Depending on the makeup of your family you might want something toddler, teen or adult friendly. Here's a list of those attractions that keeps age in mind.

Monster MOSH

Ages: 2-8

October 31- November 1

The Museum of Science and History is temporarily transformed for the little ones, with games, mad science and ghosts.

Jacksonville Zoo's 21st Annual Spooktacular

October 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 & November 1

Age: 1-10

Always a popular favorite with the toddler set, the Zoo offers a not-so-scary alternative for the littlest goblins. Trick-or-Treating, a pumpkin patch, enchanted forest, slides and activities will all be part of the fun. Children under 3 are free, $9 for others.

Zombie Walk

October, 26 at 2 pm

Ages: All

If you're itching to do something out of the ordinary and free for the whole family, try the Zombie Walk! Just bring a canned good to donate. It's new to the area this year, but they had a trial run earlier in this year. The last Zombie Walk I attended had toddlers, kids and adults attending. The premise is simple: every participant dresses up like a zombie and brings one non-perishable food item. It's a hook to help feed the hungry and it's happening in cities across the nation. Register in Downtown Jacksonville at 2 pm at London Bridge Pub 100 E Adams Street. The walk itself will last about an hour. There will also be an after party at 9th & Main, directly after the walk.

Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair

Ages: All

October 29-November 9

Fair fun, rides and haunted houses makes for family Halloween fun for kids of all ages.

Jacksonville Fairgrounds, 510 Fairgrounds Pl., $5-$8 (904) 353-0535

Adventure Landing's Hall of Terror and Haunted River Ride

Ages: All

Select dates from October 10- November 1

Something to offer to every age group at this homegrown amusement park, from the HalloWee Zone, for the tots and the Hall of Terror for the big kids and adults. New to the yearly mix is the Haunted River Ride at Shipwreck Island. $10-16 (904) 246-4286

Evergreen Cemetery: Tales of Our City Tours

Ages: 10 and up

October 18-19 9 am- 3pm

You don't have to go all the way to St. Augustine for a ghost tour. Instead, head to the huge Evergreen Cemetery, the largest in the area. There you'll find everyone buried there, from city founders to Jacksonville's oldest families and the victims of the Yellow Fever epidemic. While a precocious 8-year-old might find this tour interesting, it's a little history heavy for the little ones. It's a great family friendly activity to share with your tweens, teens or just for yourself. $10 in advance, $12 at the gate, $4 for kids under 12. Call (904) 733-8352 for info.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Ages: Adults, late teen

October 24 doors open at 11pm, street festival starts at 8 pm

Dress up like your favorite character from this cult classic and get a little messy at the Florida Theatre.

If you don't already know and love the Rocky Horror Picture Show, it's certainly a good idea to rent the video before going to this event. There's lots of sexual content in it, so if your teen wants to attend this wild night, you might want to research the movie before allowing them to go with a group. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets will be sold in advance at the City of Jacksonville Office of Special Events. Tickers will be sold at the Florida Theatre the day of the show starting at 10 am. For more info call (904) 630- 3690.

Dark Arts Celebration

October 25 at 7 pm-2 am

Wear a sexy or gothic costume for this art event, mixing live music, cocktails, art and commerce. Forty artists will have works on display to buy. Seawalk Hotel (904) 249-9981. Admission $5 ages 21 and up, $7 under 21
