Mississippi jumped out to a very impressive 31-10 lead heading into halftime, and the game started progressing exactly like it should have. Jacksonville State tacked on a field goal in the third quarter, but still Ole Miss was up 31-13 heading into the fourth quarter, and it seemed like they would just need to run out the clock before celebrating the victory. There would be no celebrating at the end of this game though, as Jacksonville State ran off 21 points in the fourth quarter to force an overtime.
In the second overtime Jacksonville State put away the Rebels of Ole Miss, finishing the game 49-48. Jeremiah Masoli threw for 109 yards on 7-10 passing for Mississippi and running back Brandon Bolden ran for 104 yards on 17 carries. Mississippi also ended up with 479 total yards, compared to just 355 total yards for Jacksonville State, but that doesn't matter when we look at the final score. The next game for Ole Miss is against Tulane on September 11, while Jacksonville State hosts Chattanooga on the same day.
