Wanting to love
But unable to let go
Two separate feelings surface but continue to walk out the door
Neither can look each other in the eyes
One quietly says, "I can't take the impact of another unexpected heartbreak."
The other says in a whisper, "The last time I tried love I learned it was a lie."
Can't forgive or escape
But for learning how to gain love's favor one still contemplates
Do we want what we really need?
Why are we fighting against what our heart truly perceives?
It's not a fear of commitment or desire to play the field.
It's basically the work of pride and our past bitter pills
Neither of us utters a spontaneous word
It seems as though the moments are calculated and rehearsed
While each day passes by and times slips away
We don't have or perceive the context clues
We are both too jaded to admit the truth
We'll never find love because we are too afraid to

Post a CommentYou have a nice way of examining emotions and the human condition in general. Thanks.
You got to the heart of the emotion beautifully; if only we could make our hearts do what our rational minds tell us!
A very beautiful piece of poetry indeed.Really loved it.
And many thanks for commenting on my first article in AC
Another beautiful and yet brilliant piece. What I have discovered within myself is that to truly let go of the past is to approach every situation as a new situation. Trust an individual until they give you rightful reason not to, but be cautious and use wisdom, and finally after you have forgiven the person who hurt you.....please.........forgive yourself too!!! ...Thanks for sharing, I love your work!!!
Very nice...very emotive too.
One thing, I've learned through many years in a bad relationship, which ended after 36 years, last month, is........Everything happens in God's time...not ours. And when the time is right the feelings will be right for the right two people. I know what you mean about guarding your heart... It just seems natural after one is hurt by another. This is a sad but beautiful poem.... Thank you for sharing your feelings with us.~ God Bless You Sister.... PEACE ~ Nancie
Rich in emotion. Thank You fer sharin'. Mizpah. ;-}}>
Very moving!!
The last line of this poem sums it all up. To be find love you have to be open to try. Good job conveying the thoughts waging war inside the mind that go unspoken. I like ;o)
