Columbia Pictures' will release The Karate Kid (2010) to the world on June 11, 2010. The star of the film, Jaden Smith, has also been seen in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness and The Day the Earth Stood Still in 2008. Jaden is also a dancer and has appeared on television in All of Us and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
In this remake of the 1984 classic starring Ralph Macchio, Elizabeth Shue and Pat Morita, Jaden will play a character with loose characteristics of Ralph's character from the original. The circumstances are not alike whatsoever, but the concept is the same - bully someone and you'll pay for it when that certain someone learns how to fight back. Or at least that's my take on the film. This coming-of-age drama depicts the struggle between a young boy and his relationships with his mother, friends, girls and bullies. Jaden's character, Dre, will find an unusual mentor that will eventually help him flourish and grow in his new environment with the cast of characters entering his life in unexpected ways. Dre's mentor is played by martial artist and beloved actor Jackie Chan. The original Karate Kid earned "Mr. Miyagi" Pat Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Will Jackie have the same luck with the remake?
The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan tells the story of a 12-year-old popular Detroit boy who is moved to Beijing, China upon news that his single mother has secured a new job. The suddenly very unpopular kid develops a few challenges in his new homeland when he realizes that he just doesn't fit in. Bullies abound and Dre (Jaden Smith) finds unlikely solace in secret Kung-Fu master Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan). Dre agrees to train for a tournament match and the road from "Underdog to Wonderdog" begins to take shape.
The Karate Kid will hit theaters on June 11, 2010. Find out more about the film here: http://www.karatekid-themovie.com/site/.
