Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette: 90's Music at Its Best

A Review of the Number One Album from the 1990's and Why I Still Love It

Cassie Schmelz
When I think of music from the 1990's, one artist in particular comes to mind: Alanis Morissette. Of all of her wonderful albums, "Jagged Little Pill" stands out as the best. It came out at a time when there was nothing else like it out there and really got people's attention. Released in 1995, it eventually went on to be named by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The first, and probably most popular, single off "Jagged Little Pill" was "You Oughta Know." This girl power rock anthem was a far cry from many of the other whiny love songs that were release by other women in the 90's. When this song came out, people really started paying attention, making Morissette more of a household name. It was, and still is, the perfect song to listen to over and over after a break up.

Alanis' "Jagged Little Pill" doesn't only contain angst fill songs about getting your heart broken. She also shows a softer side with "Head over Feet" as well as a cheeky side with "Ironic". If your lucky enough to own one of the Cd's with the hidden bonus track "Your House," you are really in for a treat. She shows her vulnerability like no other with this one.

The great thing about Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" is that it's not something that you hear and think "why did I ever like that?" (Right Said Fred, anyone?). In fact, I still have it on my Ipod and listen to it now and again. "Head over Feet" is actually still one of my favorite songs of all time. Whenever I hear that song, I feel as if I'm back in 9th grade and like it just the same.

Next time you feel like taking a trip down memory lane, to the 1990's in particular, try popping in Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill". Get ready to sing your face off, it works every time.

If this is an album that you would either like to own again or would like to buy for the first time, there are several websites where it can be easily purchased. Try Amazon, Keenzo, J&R, DeepDiscount, or Buy, to name a few.
