Jaheim's The Making of a Man Will Appeal to R&B Purists

The Reviewer
Jaheim is a New Jersey-based R&B singer. His debut album, Ghetto Love, was his most successful album going double platinum. However, each album sold fewer and fewer records, with his last album, Ghetto Classics, going gold. Now Jaheim is back with his forth solo album. Will The Making Of A Man be successful like Ghetto Love or be a chart disappointment like Ghetto Classics?

The first single off The Making Of A Man is Never. The song is solid but not one of the best choices for a first single. On the mid-tempo R&B song Jaheim appeals to his core audience yet does not try to broaden it whatsoever. The strongest part of the song is definitely the bridge which makes the song listenable. The song does show off Jaheim's very uniquely strong vocals.

On I've Changed Jaheim is joined by Keyshia Cole. The track is very catchy and features strong vocal performances from both Jaheim and Keyshia Cole. The song is definitely one of the strongest tracks off The Making Of A Man and should have definitely been the first single. The song has more crossover appeal than most of Jaheim's other tracks.

The Voice Of R&B is one of the stronger tracks on the album. The song talks about that although Jaheim has been absent from the R&B scene recently, he has come back to take the crown. The song features a very memorable beat and is strong lyrically from Jaheim. The song almost sounds more like a rap track than an R&B song.

You Just Don't Get It is a nice R&B track. The beat features a strange combination of heavy synths and acoustic guitars. The contrast sounds awkward at first but after a few listens it makes sense. On the track Jaheim is joined by Babyface on the background vocals and production.

She Ain't You features a vintage 70's sample updated with new harder drums. The beat is extremely catchy and Jaheim sounds great on the track vocally.

Lonely is one of the mellower tracks on the album. The song features an interpolation of the hit If You Think You're Lonely Now. The song is very solid.

Life Of A Thug is one of the most personal tracks on the album. The track talks about Jaheim's rough upbringing. The beat is nothing special however the lyrical content saves the track.

Jaheim's The Making Of A Man is a very solid R&B album. The album will definitely appeal to R&B purists who appreciate well-written songs. The Making Of A Man gets 8 out of 10 stars. If you are a fan, make sure you pick up The Making Of A Man when it's in stores on Dec. 18.
