Captain Harris Wears Down on Season 6, Episode 8 of Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel
On the Cornelia Marie, Captain Phil Harris dropped his pots 160 miles from his ideal spot because of the ice weighing down the boat. Harris has 3 crushed discs in his back making him feel miserable. Harris' son Josh takes wheel watch, giving dad a break for the first time in 3 days. After a 1000 calorie breakfast full of eggs and waffles, the first pots are brought up and there's nothing in them, possibly because the Opilio pots were set upside down. He heads to "the rockpile", a place of past success.
On the Kodiak, Captain "Wild Bill" Wichrowski got to his Opilio crab fishing spot without the ice troubles, and his crew begins dropping pots. When they're brought up, the numbers reported aren't adding up right in the captain's mind. Overcounting or undercounting can lead to a big fine and "Wild Bill" tells the crew that the fine would come out of their pay. Deckhand Clinton starts griping about it, but the captain hears it via the sound system, and basically tells his squawker to clam up on Deadliest Catch, Season 6, Episode 8. "Wild Bill" is beside himself for the continued sloppy counting, and tells his deckboss that Clinton will be replaced when the boat gets back to shore if another person can be found.
On the Wizard with Captain Keith Colburn, greenhorn Paul, the captain's former mountain guide, is getting a harsh start to his fishing career because of the 30 knot winds and freezing sea spray, but has to begin throwing out the lines. When the first pots begin to come up, there's some good numbers and not so great numbers, though the average pot has 200-plus Opilio crab. Ice again takes over the boat for the second time in 12 hours, stressing out the crew.
Greenhorn Jeremy Succombs to Bad Vomiting on Season 6, Episode 8 of Deadliest Catch
The Time Bandit Captain Andy Hillstrand has reached his targeted grounds, but the seas aren't happy to see them, as it's acting like a "washing machine" according to the crew. Greenhorn Jeremy has been vomiting a lot, and hasn't been contributing, and could be replaced. But he finally sucks it up, and comes out to help on Deadliest Catch, Season 6, Episode 8, but soon after, he starts vomiting again and is soon off the deck. One crewmate tries to inspire Jeremy to tough it up. At the Opilio crab grounds known as "the washing machine", the first pots aren't plentiful, except for the wrong species, which have to be thrown back.
On the Northwestern, Captain Sig Hansen's crew starts bringing up his pots after 24 hours. Edgar is slower to the job as his body is getting more worn out, especially with his bad back. The first pots contain a lot of throw-aways, and the captain isn't happy because he had committed to make things easier on the crew because of Edgar, but now feels like the deckhands are taking advantage of him. Then Jake Anderson cuts his wrist badly with a cod knife, but is working again in just 15 minutes on Season 6, Episode 8 of Deadliest Catch.
The current leader in Opilio crab is the Kodiak and Northwestern at 30,000 pounds caught. The Wizard is trailing with 28,000; The Time Bandit has 19,000, and the Corneila Marie is last at 15,000.
