October Sky rated PG 1999 stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Homer Hickam, a young man growing up in the 1950's in a coalmine community with dreams bigger than hauling coal. Gyllenhaal's excellent performance inspires watchers as this young Homer Hickam endures and overcomes the town's small-minded "follow in our footsteps" mentality and strives to follow his passion in space and science. Gyllenhaal gives a moving performance that drives home the inspiration of this fantastic story.
Bubble Boy rated PG-13 2001 Jake Gyllenhaal plays Jimmy Livingston who was born without an immune system. Poor Jimmy has lived a secluded life in his bedroom in an environment meant to keep him from coming into contact with any germs or human contact. Though his parents tried to keep him entertained, young Jimmy yearned for the affection of a young women he watched through his window growing up. Once he found out she was getting married, the now older Jimmy decides he is going to gain his independence from the bubble world he has lived in his whole life. He creates a portable bubble and bids farewell to his family setting off on an interesting journey that will make you laugh-out loud.
Moonlight Mile rated PG-13 2002 Joe Nast played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is dealing with the sudden loss of his fiancé. Also starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon as his late finance's parents who are still grieving their daughters loss who cannot deal with also loosing their would-be son-in-law. Joe lives with the family and continues the plan of going into business with his father-in-law, but feels torn and trapped in a situation he needs to move on from. As the whole story unfolds the family is able to gain closure about their daughters untimely death and Joe is able to move-on with his life as well. Grab the tissue box for this one, it is a tearjerker, but defiantly a must see!
The Day After Tomorrow rated PG-13 2004 This action-packed adventure movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Sam Hall and also stars Dennis Quaid as his father Jack Hall. The fantastic storyline in combination with spectacular scenes including ravaging tornados, disastrous floods, and freezing temperatures will keep you on the edge of your seat. As Jack Hall ventures his way into what can only be considered a suicide mission, his drive to locate and save his son is extraordinary This is a movie you can watch again and again, it's just that good!
Zodiac rated R 2007 This chilling thriller recounts the cruel actions of a cryptic killer loose in San Francisco in the 60's and 70's and is based on actual events. Clues left by this sadistic killer are sent to the newspaper where Jake Gyllenhaal playing Robert Graysmith a reporter, begins to decipher the killer's code. Paired up with Mark Ruffalo playing Inspector David Toschi, and Robert Downey Jr, as coworker Paul Avery, these three work up a spectacular performance as the hunt for the killer continues to bring terror to the city.
