Jake Pavelka Voted Off Dancing with the Stars - What's Next? Kate and Jake Plus Eight?

Many of us watched as Jake Pavelka wooed the ladies on ABC's The Bachelor this year. Most of us cheered for good girl Tenley and hoped Vienna would be chauffeured home; but it was not to be. Against our hopes, Jake went for the woman he was most physically attracted to, confirming our worst fears about what some men want from women as he spoke on talks shows about the "heat" he felt for Vienna.

But that wasn't the end for Jake... or us. His next stop was in full-blown ballroom regalia on this season's Dancing with the Stars. Honestly, I was looking forward to seeing how he'd do with complicated ballroom steps even if I had to roll my eyes at yet another reality star gone wild in search of continuing celebrity and ever-elusive stardom.

But what I saw surprised me. In the first episodes of Dancing with the Stars, Pavelka tried to boss his partner and instructor, Chelsie Hightower, then complained that she wasn't treating him with respect. What? A reality star guy who's never danced before chiding a professional ballroom dancer? Hmm... Maybe it was difficult for him to take instruction from a woman he wasn't feeling "heat" for? Maybe, but it was difficult for many viewers to watch his constant play to the camera and an intensity behind his facial contortions that was more than creepy.

Six Pack Abs Keep Jake in the Competition

Apparently, I wasn't alone in being taken aback. Pavelka ended up in the bottom two in Week 3 of the show. But in true reality star form, bounced back with a winning tactical combination: 1) feigning humility by constantly declaring Hightower a wonderful instructor and 2) exposing as much skin in a Tom Cruise impersonation as possible without making the show X-rated. The result? Safe for Week 4!

Scary Facial Expressions Foretold Jake's Doom

In the show's next episode the fake humility and skin factor were becoming old news, and Pavelka wound up to the bottom four. But karma caught up with the bachelor in Week 6. In performing the samba - once again with open shirt to reveal that hot bod of his - his facial expressions bordered on maniacal. Granted, he's not a professional dancer, but his drive to win definitely went overboard. I began imagining what the Portrait of Jake "Dorian Gray" Pavelka looks like in its secret hiding place in his attic.

Jake Chokes... Up

And again... America was leaning more on my side of the fence. Jake Pavelka was voted off Dancing with the Stars last night. He left with grace, thanking everyone who had supported him from Chelsea to Texas to Vienna and then - yes, it's true - he started to cry like a little girl. Well, okay, not quite like a little girl but he did choke up and I just couldn't help thinking he was more overwhelmed but not having another reality show lined up than he was to leave DWTS. But c'est la vie.

Next Stop: Jake and Kate Plus 8?

Don't worry, Jake. There's always tomorrow. And maybe if things don't work out with Vienna, you can join forces with another reality star phenom, Kate Gosselin, on a new show with the kids, Kate and Jake Plus Eight!
