The papers naming the murder suspect say he is being accused of acting as the accomplice for the man who shot Jam Master Jay. The legal paperwork was submitted recently in New York. The papers say the 45 year old, Ronald Washington, worked with another man who has not been identified, to murder the Run DMC star.
The new details about Jam Master Jay's murder surfaced when Ronald Washington was on trial for another crime, robbery. However even though papers have been submitted there are no murder charges for Ronald Washington yet. Washington also claims that he had nothing to do with the murder.
Run DMC star Jam Master Jay was murdered on October 30 2002 while working in his New York studio. The rapper's real name is Jason Mizell.
The legal documents accusing Ronald Washington say that he, "pointed his gun at those present in the studio, ordered them to get on the ground and provided cover for his associate to shoot and kill Jason Mizell."
Besides claiming that Ronald Washington was involved in the Run DMC murder case, the legal documents also claim that Washington was involved in another murder that took place in 1995. This is the cased of Randy Walker. Walker was closely connected to another murdered rapper, Tupac Shakur. Tupca Shakur was murdered in 1995.
Ronald Washington has said that he was not involved in the Randy Walker murder case.
The news of a suspect brought a little more closure to the family of Jam Master Jay. A representative for the family, Fern Yates, said, "We're relieved there's some information coming out, although we understand that it's not the full story."
The suspect, Ronal Washington, has a long list of criminal offences. His record goes all the way to back to 1982. His crimes include armed robbery, assault and drug crimes.
Jam Master Jam is a legendary rapper who many say is responsible for making rap a mainstream music success. Making rap popular should also be credited to the other members of Run DMC, Joseph 'Run' Simmons and Daryl 'DMC' McDaniels.
The first big hit for Run DMC came when the rappers teamed up with rockers, Aerosmith. The two groups put out a track called 'Walk This Way'. This venture made Run DMC the first rap group to ever reach to top 10 of the US charts. They also became the first rap group to have a music video shown on MTV. 'Walk This Way' was also hugely successful in the UK music charts.
