James Cameron Claims He Found the Tomb of Jesus Christ, but Did He?

Who Do You Believe? James Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici, or the Word of God?

Donna H. Davey
James Cameron, the director of Titanic, has unveiled what he believes to be the burial site of Jesus Christ. The film, which will air in March, purports to document the discovery of a Jerusalem cave containing ten caskets believed to hold the remains of Mary, Jesus, Mary Magdalene and others. However, the caskets, which contained no bones, were originally found in 1980, so this isn't a "new" discovery, even if the media wants to jump on the story like it is. 27 years ago the ossuaries were put into a storage area (that dismissal should tell you something) because the experts agreed that they were not those of Jesus Christ.

In fact, Israel's Antiquities Authority, among other archeologists, said the find was a coincidence, even mentioning that the names were among the most popular at the time; so common in fact that the names appear on numerous tombs and burial sites.

Put another way, these names would have as much significance as the future discovery of today's gravestones with the names of "Smith" and "Jones."

Furthermore, Stephen Pfann, a biblical scholar in Jerusalem, said that Ancient Semitic script is complex and not at all easy to translate; he said that the name Jesus might not have been decoded properly and could be "Hanun."

The bible states that Jesus Christ was from Nazareth, as was his family, so why would "some" of his family be buried in Jerusalem but not others?

As a believer, I am not at all convinced. However, I am certain that there is a war on Christianity. What drives that obsession? It's my belief that it's borne from intimidation - evident in the way people go to such great lengths to discredit Jesus Christ. It's not hard to figure out why though as His existence demands a decision about Him. Perhaps those who so desperately try to harm Christianity would do well to go after other religions with the same amount of obsessive vigor.

In closing, I believe in the living, resurrected Jesus Christ and He has changed my life and given me peace and comfort beyond compare; that's all the hard evidence I need; and that confirmation is certainly more compelling than the second hand find of James Cameron and his film crew.

Hey fool, haven't you heard? Heaven's not overflowing.

Congratulations, you believe in Jesus and the Bible. Your article contains absolutely no facts in favor of your beliefs or against Cameron's. You provide no examples of a genuine "war on Christianity" and are behaving in a way that is in no way in defense of your religion. Your poorly researched "article" just makes you and other Christians like you look shrill and uneducated. Well done.

"What I can't understand is why no one is mentioning that there were over 500 witnesses to the risen Christ documented in the archives of the city, not just the gospels. " lol, this is really funny. you 'true believers' will make up anything.

"History doesn't lie." Will history is written by people and they lie or misrepresent all the time. Y'all need to go back to taking your meds.

1 Corinthians 3:11 - For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4:12 -Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

A new article was just published in which many of the scholars who were interviewed for and appeared in the film are questioning some of its basic claims: Jesus tomb film scholars backtrack (http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1176152766396&pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull)

Oh yeah, conservatively speaking, the odds of having those combinations of names that are consistent with the names in the Bible are something like 1 in 600. We'll see what further investigation discovers.

God clearly put this tomb here on earth with compelling and persuasive evidence to test our faith. A test that I seem to be flunking.

Interesting news and not surprising. This type of thing will continue in the effort to discredit every belief that we have ever had about Jesus. News like this is meant to test your faith, but true believers will never for one minute waiver from what they know is true.

Wonderful and insightful piece, Donna. What I can't understand is why no one is mentioning that there were over 500 witnesses to the risen Christ documented in the archives of the city, not just the gospels. History doesn't lie. The historians of the time had no special motive to prove or discredit the witnesses and some of the secular population were witnesses also. Christ physically rose from the dead, thus there would be no bones. People try to disprove the diety of Christ because they don't want to answer to any higher power.
