The buzz began at CES 2009, when Cameron spoke about working with Panasonic to accelerate the release of Blu Ray 3D. That speech stirred up a new discussion about the possibilities of 3D high-definition entertainment in the home. Now that the specification is complete, manufacturers will be able to make players using the new format as early as next year.
As it stands now, it looks like you will have to upgrade your existing Blu-Ray player and HD display (Plasma, LCD, or otherwise) to get into 3D movies at home, but the good news is that your 2D Blu-Ray discs will work in the new player, and the 3D discs will play in 2D when placed into an older player. You will also need special glasses like the ones you would use at a 3D movie in the theater.
