James Cameron's Avatar Sneak Peak

With what fans expected to be his finest film yet, they were in for a shock after the teaser trailer was released in theaters. Some have called the movie mediocre at best while others have branded it as Space Pocahontas. Unfortunately, I would have whole heartedly agreed with them because I too was expecting a film that would shock the pants off of me, but I was wrong. I still firmly agree that Cameron's best film was Aliens. It was a total masterpiece that hardly needed any CGI. The aliens were not computer animated, but they were made of real material. Some were even made out of cow stomach and fiberglass which is something horror fans should take note on since today's horror movies depend on exaggerated gore rather than developing real creatures from scratch.

These blue somewhat primitive humanoid aliens are nothing like the aliens from Cameron's first breakout film "Aliens"; instead they are ten foot creatures with a non menacing appearance. The movie takes place at a fictional planet called Pandora where humans are at war with the native inhabitants over the planet's valuable natural recourses. There is not much to reveal about the movie, but within weeks, people will eventually find out.

Another surprising thing about Cameron's Avatar is the film's gargantuan budget. In order for a movie to be considered a success financially, it must topple its own budget from worldwide tickets sales. In Cameron's case that budget is an overwhelming 300 million dollars making it the most expensive movie ever made. One example of a movie that shattered its own budget was last year's Dark Knight which had a budget of 185 million and grossed in over a billion dollars worldwide. Yes, the Dark Knight dominated the box office last year and possibly this entire decade. The budget for Avatar is likely true since it has been rumored several years ago that the movie reached an initial filming budget of over 200 million dollars.

Information regarding Avatar's initial budgets was gathered at slashfilm.com. This is an excellent site to visit if you are interested in the latest news of movies that haven't been released in theaters.
