James Dobson Attacks Barack Obama

Chris A. Sosa
As his influence slowly dwindles in the minds of the American public, Dobson once again hijacks the spotlight to attack none other than Christian Democratic nominee Barack Obama. Apparently Obama's messages of faith and unity coexisting are just too much for Evangelicalism's poster-boy of intolerance to handle. As is the custom in the Dobson camp, James has prepared an old-fashioned radio broadcast, but without the old-fashioned word-of-mouth way to spread it. No, Dobson prefers to leak his own materials to the Associated Press before releasing them.

According to Dobson, Obama is peddling a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution mixed with "his own confused theology." Yes, Dobson is a legal and biblical expert for those unaware. Never mind his lack of formal education in both subjects. Terrifyingly enough, Dobson has a doctorate in psychology. For any of those familiar with his spin machine Focus on the Family, it is immediately obvious that James Dobson hasn't even peeked at the DRSM IV. He is way too busy defending parents who hit their children and trying to turn gay kids straight for his own bizarre purposes.

Obama is hardly a mountain of biblical understanding, but his statement that "folks haven't been reading their Bibles" is spot-on. The Bible does in fact remain silent on the issue of slavery, as slavery just wasn't an issue at the time of its writing. The Bible also condones child abuse, polygamy, murder, genocide, homophobia, misogyny, and a host of other disturbing behaviors. This is not to say everyone should disregard their Scriptures, as these texts give invaluable insights into the mindsets of the Jewish people, some of whom were responsible for the formation of Christianity. Dobson just seemingly hasn't ever opened a Bible... or has he?

He most certainly has. James has a way of taking any Scriptural passage and using it to confuse the masses, resulting in a funneling of money from terrified individuals convinced that James Dobson will save their families. Uninformed individuals are snatched up into Dobson's mania by the millions, lured by his grandfatherly reassurance that he has their best interest in mind. James Dobson is looking out for someone, and it most likely isn't you.

Unfortunately, Dobson still maintains a strong hold on many of America's conservative Christian families unaware of his shady dealings and practices. Those with a keen eye will keep Dobson's focus as far away from their family as possible.
