Simple, they weren't funny enough.
Comedian Doug Benson, in his charming manner, alluded to what many of us were thinking with his tweet, "Is it possible to sit through this without weed and alcohol? #Oscars."
Film critic Roger Ebert saw it that way also. He tweeted, "Did I miss something? Is Billy Crystal getting the first laughs of the evening?"
James Franco and Anne Hathaway were cute, but cute is not enough. Franco often looks as if he's stoned. Therefore, having him as a host is a bad idea, anyway. He had one shining moment, and that was coming out on stage dressed in a pink gown and blond wig aka Marilyn Monroe. It also gave him one of the few laughs of the night. "Weird part is: I just got a text message from Charlie Sheen," said Franco.
Anne Hathaway is somewhat of a sexy geek. She's attractive and quite provocative in her beautiful gowns, but she's not funny. She's got too much of a good girl image to get the hardy laughs.
Melissa Leo dropping the F-bomb gave us a jolt, but there has to be more material to keep us awake. You can guarantee that there will be a new host or hosts for the Oscars next year. We'd take Billy Crystal as an Oscar host again. Or, Kevin Spacey would be a good host. He was one of the few bright spots in the Oscar ceremony with his snarky wit. Plus, he has a great singing voice.

Post a CommentI agree with Sherri - hosts will be bashed no matter what. I didn't see this year's Oscars though. I didn't know Kevin Spacey could sing.
They tried...especially Anne....but I say bring back Billy Crystal.
I guess I don't agree with the masses..I enjoyed the Oscars and I thought Hathaway and Franco were charming and funny (mostly). It's not suppose to be a comedy show anyway but it seems every year, no matter who hosts, they get bashed the next day. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would ever take that ungrateful gig?
