Kate Schum
On September 18th, 1961, the most popular television mobster was born. James Gandolfini was born in West Wood, New Jersey. He graduated from Park Ridge High School and attended Rutgers University.

Despite his role as a violent mob boss on The Sopranos, it is said that Gandolfini is a pacifist in real life. He began his acting career on the stage in the New York Theater. His Broadway debut was in A Street Car Named Desire in 1992.

James has been quoted saying "I'm a neurotic mess. I'm really basically just like a 260 lb Woody Allen". Once married to Marcy Wudarski they divorced in 2002. He was also engaged to Lora Somoza. They broke up amicably. In his earlier years, he's worked as a bouncer and a bartender.

He is also talented musically. He plays the trumpet and the saxophone. He has won a number of Emmys for his role in The Sopranos. His other achievements include the Screen Idol Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for: The Mexican at L.A. Outfest, the TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Drama for: The Sopranos three years in a row!

He is currently busy shooting season six of The Sopranos. You can see him on season five. It's already begun, but if you have On Demand you can sit back, relax, and catch up on this great show.

He's no Sonny Steelgrave. Everyone who loves this show should do themselves a favor and rent the first season of Wiseguy. Ray Sharkey's Sonny Steelgrave was television's greatest portrayal of a mob boss.
