Beginning on November 14 and running nightly through January 4 the Festival of Lights attracts more than 200,000 guests each year. They come to James Island, South Carolina to see this spectacular celebration in lights. Admission is per car with additional fees for buses.
Weather permitting; your car windows will be slightly open allowing the nip of winter to tickle the nose as the sounds of the season tickles the ears. Tuning your radio to a preset AM radio station brings the holiday sounds into your car as you slowly wind your way through the 3-mile path. Don't try to rush this event, take your time and let the Festival of Lights fill you with that inner warmth that comes from time spent with loved ones.
Little eyes fill with wonder as they pass Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Blue eyes of old fill with tears of joy and love as they reflect on the manger scene or the heralding angels or recall days of old. Joy and glee for Santa and his toys or honor and reverence for the Christ Child, the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park is for everyone.
When the drive through the lights is finished don't miss Santa's Village. Here young and old alike can roast a marshmallow over an open fire and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate to chase the chill away. Stroll through the shops offering local holiday crafts and irresistible homemade candies. Before leaving be sure to check out the sand sculpture - over 50 tons of sand are used to construct this marvel.
The Holiday Festival of Lights is a Lowcountry tradition that draws visitors from all across the United States. Gate keepers have reported that during its 18-year history license plates from 48 states have been spotted visiting the Festival of Lights.
