James Jay Lee Shot and Killed at Discovery Channel Building After Hostage Situation This Morning

James Jay Lee, the man who took hostages at the Discovery Channel building in Maryland earlier today, has now been shot by police.

As of 5pm on September 1^st, it was reported that police have shot and killed the hostage-taker, James Jay Lee and that the three hostages are safe. Reports said that one of the devices strapped to his chest went off when Lee was shot and that the building could still contain explosives. No one other than the hostage-taker is reported to be injured at this time.

After the hostage situation, the on-site daycare which houses over 100 children was safely evacuated as well as the eighth and ninth floors of the building in Washington where the Discovery headquarters are held.

This was an e-mail sent to Discovery employees (according to TMD reports):

"Subject: URGENT: Employees Should Go Home - Don't Return to 1DP Until Further Notice Employees at 1DP should go home for the remainder of the day. No employee should return to 1DP for any reason. Employees with cars at 1DP should not return to the office, but instead use an alternate mode of transportation.

The children from Discovery Kids Place are safe and with their teachers at the McDonald's at the intersection of Colesville and Second Aves. Parents should meet their children there and go home for the remainder of the day."

The building was evacuated and put on lockdown with all employees being told to immediately leave the area and not to return to the building for any reason. Police have also secured the areas around the building, on Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring and also cancelled bus routes that come by the Discovery Headquarters for the safety of everyone involved.

Lee has a history of beef with the Discovery Channel. The environmental activist was sentenced to six months of supervised probation for disorderly conduct in March 2008. He had an apparent grudge against the network and the type of programming they show which he believes to be contributing to the destruction of the planet and encouraging war.

Recently Lee published a manifesto to Discovery Channel citing all of the demands he expected from the network. TMZ published a full version of this manifesto which included demands such as:

"All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs' places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it."

"Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation."

"Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don't build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding

as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!"

The environmentalist goes on to say that "Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around" and that the earth does not need humans.
