James Madison, the oldest of children twelve.
He was a small boy, and not in good health.
He was called "Jemmy" in the small neighborhood
Only nine of these children survived childhood.

Jemmy's father planted tobacco, acquiring land
Soon 5,000 acres belonged to this man.
The other siblings could help dad with crops
Jemmy wanted to learn, and didn't want to stop

James studied language, geography, and mathematic
He studied diligently, and was proficient in Latin,
Preparing for college, at the age of sixteen,
To gain knowledge: his goal was supreme

In choosing a college, he had to think of himself
Princeton was chosen, because of his health.
After graduating Princeton, he chose not to leave
So he could study Hebrew, and political philosophy.

He married a widow named Dolley Payne
A friend introduced them, Aaron Burr his name.
Madison was the first president to wear long pants
Till now it was knee breeches on most every man.
