Those who have been watching Season 10 regularly are fully expecting Jacob Lusk to be the next casualty. Despite his powerful voice, the gospel-oriented singer has been in the bottom three twice, maybe three times, (they chose not to identify the bottom 3 last week). Jacob was even called out for his wardrobe choices in Carole King week by Interscope's chairman and this season's mentor, Jimmy Iovine, who put him on "banana peel status." (It must have been that yellow shirt).
In the upcoming "Then and Now" week, the Idols will sing two songs: one from the 1960s and a current song. I can't even venture a guess for the 60s -- we're talking a decade of the most popular songs ever, but I will pick one 60s song for Jacob because if he has to go, I would love to see him go out in a blaze of glory. A lot of people are recommending Ben E. King's "Stand by Me," but I say do some James Brown, Jacob. If he sings "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," I will vote for him because I just have a feeling that he would tear it up and I also think it would give him a better chance of not being voted out.
Haley and Lauren are the next two contestants in jeopardy of elimination. Lauren has never been in the Bottom Three. Haley has been there more than any other remaining contestant. As ironic as it is, a lot of people think Lauren, although a strong vocalist, ought to be voted off for delivering too many country-style performances.
Country performances are pretty much all Scotty McCreery has delivered because that's about all he's good at. I recommended "You've Got a Friend" for him in Carole King week for the sole reason that I couldn't think of another song he could have handled, but I was not impressed with his performance. Scotty is a judges' favorite and has a strong fan following, and the statistics show him to be either ahead of James Durbin in popularity or right behind him, depending upon what you go by.
Likester.com predicts Idol results based upon Facebook likes. According to their latest statistics, McCreery is crushing the competition with 216,834 Facebook likes. Lauren Alaina comes in a distant second with 94,389 and James Durbin is third with 86,054.
Compare that with these YouTube numbers from views and likes of the performances in Carole King Week. Quackoff Network had the most watched videos in Carole King Week: Durbin is the leader with 229,014 views on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" video and 2,049 likes. McCreery is a sad second with 70,058 views and 461 likes. Lauren Alaina is third with 29,668 views and 271 likes. Haley came in 4th in views but more people hit the like button on Jacob's performance than hers, even if he got less views.
James Durbin and Scotty McCreery are the top two male contenders either way. It's up to the voters if they want to see one of the girls up there competing against James for the top spot and not Scotty. What makes me think that James will come out ahead of Scotty? His top performances every single week, and Jennifer Lopez agrees, noting that he has never had a bad performance. J-Lo named James' performances as the best of the night two weeks in a row, even before the show was over.
