Jamestown Musical Group to Be Featured on Historic Radio Show
Family Entertainers Take to the Airways ... And the Internet
First broadcast in 1927, the Wheeling Jamboree is presented in front of a studio audience and was one of the first of hundreds of barn dance themed radio shows that blanketed the airways in the early half of the 20th Century. Since its inception, the program has hosted a who's who of country music celebrities from Merle Haggard to Marty Robbins. The program can be heard over the radio in southeast Ohio and northwest West Virginia and anywhere in the world through a live internet simulcast.
Best known for their stage variety shows and country styled, four-part vocals, the group will perform in a 45-minute segment of the show. Over their 16 year history, The Brother's & Co. has gone from an instrumental bluegrass group to a stage variety show covering songs by George Jones, John Denver, and, most notably, The Statler Brothers. The group features four singer musicians including director and writer Gery L. Deer, his brother, percussionist Gary Deer, Jr., (both of Jamestown) guitarist song writer Ed Jones, of Cincinnati, and singer, bassist Jim Karns, of Fairborn.
The Boys In Black, as they have come to be known on the jamboree circuit, have graced the stages of some of the most popular venues around Ohio, including Dayton's Schuster Performing Arts Center and Victoria Theatre, the Cedarville Opera House and The Paint Valley Jamboree in Bainbridge. The broadcast will include The Brothers & Co.'s unique blend of music, comedy and variety entertainment reminiscent of the golden age of television and radio.
Sponsorships are still available for the broadcast, contact the producers for information. To learn more about how to be part of the studio audience, or hear the show on the radio or watch it live online, visit www.thebrothersandcompany.com and click on the Wheeling Jamboree icon.
