Jamie Cullum Live in Concert with Josh Ritter at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA

September 30, 2006 Boston, MA Concert

Josh Ritter, at the beginning of the concert, took to the stage. He sung five songs from his previous albums. This man really knows how to make good music. I love all kinds of music. I have always been meaning to see Mr. Ritter live in concert. I know for a fact that he has played, once or twice, at The Paradise Rock Club on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, MA. His new album, "The Animal Years", reminds me of the song, "The Animal Song", by Savage Garden.

This particular album also reminds me of the song, "Animal Instinct", by The Cranberries. I had read somewhere that Mr. Ritter has ties to Somerville, Massachusetts. His home, however, is definitely in good ole Moscow, Idaho. I was applauding as loud as I possibly could after every one of his songs. Mr. Ritter really has a powerful singing voice. The songs that he sung at the concert were part country and part pop rock, but totally songs that any individual could indeed be mesmerized by.

There was a ten minute intermission in the middle of the concert (Between Josh Ritter's Concert & Jamie Cullum's Concert). Mr. Ritter explained that he met Jamie Cullum at a festival in England. They have been best buddies ever since.

I really must state that when Mr. Cullum came on stage he really stole the show. Mr. Cullum was indeed much better than any show or music video on MTV, the show, American Idol, and any late night talk show on television. The price that I paid for the concert was well worth the investment. (I was supporting both Mr. Cullum and Mr. Ritter.) One man stated, as he left the theater, at the end of the concert, that Mr. Cullum really has talent. I'm clearly not surprised. I always knew in fact that Mr. Cullum has had talent ever since he first came out with, his number one hit selling album, "Twenty-Something". Mr. Cullum sung some popular songs from this particular album at the concert - songs like "Twenty-Something" (One Of My Personal Favorites), "High & Dry", "I Get A Kick Out Of You", & "These Are The Days".

He ended the whole concert with the, bittersweet timeless, classic, "All At Sea". There were many times that he would put the saxophonist in the spotlight. He made sure to introduce every musician who accompanied his singing and piano playing and he also made sure to acknowledge each of these particular musicians before they all walked offstage. Mr. Ritter made sure to acknowledge every musician who accompanied him both when they were all seen on stage with him and before they all walked offstage.

People, from all walks of life, who came to the concert, really seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. There were people taking photographs with their digital cameras and there were also people filming the concert with their own personal camcorders. Mr. Cullum distinctly remembers performing once at the Paradise Rock Club and he also distinctly remembers performing at Avalon (Near Fenway Park) on Landsdowne Street in Boston, MA.

He tells people in the audience that he learned about baseball when he first came to (and visited) this country. He, in England (the country where he is originally from), is very familiar with the game of cricket. It was very much a real surprise when Mr. Cullum walked out into the audience two or three times. One of these times was when he walked off the stage with a musician who accompanied both his singing and piano playing on the stage.

Mr. Cullum told all of us, at the end of the concert, that he will be going back to England, after he leaves Boston, MA, to feed his pet cat. I thought more and more about, the singer, Billy Joel as I watched with Mr. Cullum both sing and play the piano at the concert. He, like Mr. Joel, really is an extremely gifted and amicable piano man that myself and many other people included have just enjoyed (& will always enjoy) listening to.
