Jamie Lynn Spears Breastfeeding Photos Stolen, Child Pornography Investigation

Pam Gaulin
A dozen photos of new mom Jamie Lynn Spears breastfeeding her daughter are thought to have been copied and stolen, law enforcement authors told TMZ.com, as reported by FOX News. Casey Aldridge, fiancee of Jamie Lynn Spears took a digital photo card to Wal-mart to have prints made. Law enforcement believes that someone made copies and is currently trying to sell the images. Because Jamie Lynn Spears is a minor, the any sale of the breastfeeding photos would be considered "a violation of violation of federal laws prohibiting child pornography," according to TMZ.com.

Breastfeeding and Privacy

Breastfeeding is a normal process for new moms, in the privacy of their own homes, or wherever they need to feed their babies. Some families do take photos of nursing babies, and images of breastfeeding are used in breastfeeding education to promote breastfeeding to new mothers. As happens when breastfeeding, one or both breasts may be exposed during the process.

With Jamie Lynn Spears, apparently one of her breasts is showing in the pictures. At issue is the fact that Jamie Lynn Spears is only 17 which places any financial transaction related to the leaked bresatfeeding photos into the realm of child pornography.

About Breastfeeding and Breasts

While there is nothing dirty or pornographic about breasts and breastfeeding, arguments or discussions about this issue are easily dismissed by the simple fact that Jamie Lynn Spears is 17. Some may argue that it is contradictory that she had sex and got pregnant but is still considered a child. Regardless of her new mom status, Jamie Lynn Spears is still a minor. Anyone involved in a financial transaction involving the photos is crossing the line from prurient interest to child pornography, according to the law.

Safeguarding Private Family Photos

Frame Photos Appropriately

One way to avoid exposing too much in private family photos is to frame the photo accordingly. A different angle or a zoom in or out could make the simple difference.

Consider a Private Photographer for Printing

Sometimes the local Wal-mart is not the best place to bring private family photos to be printed. Consider bringing the photo card to a professional photographer instead.

Print Private Photos at Home

It would seem obvious that if you take photos on a digital camera that are meant for private family viewing that you would also want to print them at home. In the case of Jamie Lynn Spears' fiancee, it is not like the Spears family could not afford their own photo printer.

Erase Photo Cards

Do not store digital photos on photo cards after you have printed them or stored them securely on your computer. Erase the photo card, which may be easily lost or fall into the wrong hands.

Great article. It is such a shame that this happened. As many pointed out breastfeeding is not porn, but the fact is because it is Jamie Lynn Spears that is what people would use the pictures as. I wonder what the outcome would be if she was older and not 17. Would we be seeing these photos all over the net?

Wow, I cannot believe how things like this still surface and that nobody has privacy anymore. The rich and famous true have it harder but there are cameras everywhere now a days. Very 1984 George Orwell like huh?

Pam, this was a great piece. You did a great job explaining and discussing the angles involved here.

I hope the person responsible receives what he/she deserves. I don't agree that people are stupid for taking their photos to Walmart or anywhere else. Many people don't have the technical knowledge to upload photos. That is what the photo departments are for - to handle these types of photos if someone doesn't have the knowledge or time.

The disgusting thing here is that employees, whether in hospitals, photo departments or anywhere else, can no longer be trusted to do the right thing. Privacy laws are being broken worldwide. Apparantly many people think they have a right to steal from others and make money from the stolen goods. I hope Walmart takes immediate steps to prevent this from happening again.

This is absolutely pathetic. I never cease to be amazed by people.

Some people will do anything to make money. Sad!

WTF! When I was in college, I worked at an hour-photo place - the law/regulations are that if the person developing the pics sees something that he/she thinks is in any way porn, he/she *must* turn it in.
Turn it in to the authorities, not the tabloids, though. Just check out that JAMIE LYNN SPEARS BREASTFEEDING VIDEO+PICS:

That is just too weird for words. I continue to be shocked by what lengths people will go to.
