Jamie Lynn Spears New Daughter Pictures to Come Out This Week

Robin Costello
This week's issue of OK magazine will feature Jamie Lynn Spears holding her newborn baby girl, Maddie Briann in her arms. The caption to the side reads in bold, excited type "Being a mom is the best feeling in the world!"

While that may be true for Jamie Lynn, it is not the reality for other teenage mothers. Is the message that she and OK magazine are sending to other teenagers completely irresponsible?

Jamie Lynn has been working since she was very young and has built up a pretty sizable bank account. She can afford her own home, car and child care expenses.

And even if she couldn't, her sister Britney Spears certainly can. Jamie Lynn will never stand in a welfare line and wonder where her baby's next meal will come from.

The cover features Jamie Lynn mysteriously looking older than her 17 years. The article is a long happy gush from Jamie Lynn about how she had the perfect pregnancy and perfect delivery. She is quoted saying she "is having so much fun".

Her three entire weeks of motherhood and her voice of experience is something that should be splashed on the cover of a magazine available at out local stores. This is exactly what influential teenage girls need to see.

Oh wait. Maybe that isn't such a good idea.

Is it reckless of the media to continue to glamorize teenage pregnancy? Is it fair to parents to force them into giving their children "the talk" before they feel they are ready? Jamie Lynn is the star of the Nickelodeon show "Zoey 101". Many kids not only know her, they look up to her as a role model.

And these kids are asking questions.

Babies, like sex, sells. The public is completely fascinated with celebrities and their baby bumps. Babies have become the hottest thing in accessories. Magazines pay disgusting amounts of money to publish those first pictures.

But now they are sensationalizing teen pregnancy. Is that really such a good idea?

Sure, it's her business to have a baby and set up house with her boyfriend before she is even legally old enough to vote. More power to them. And true, she isn't responsible for the decisions of other teenagers.

However it is her choice to be in the public eye knowing that she is an influence on young kids. Would it have been so impossible for her to quietly go about her business? Does she need the money and attention so desperately?

Celebrities disappear all the time. They fade out of the public eye and are quickly forgotten about. Wouldn't that have been the more responsible thing to do in this situation?

It's wonderful that Jamie Lynn had a beautiful healthy baby. Maybe it's time for her to go on, be the soccer mom she wants to be and stop showing up on the covers of magazines giving exclusive interviews.

And maybe it's time for OK magazine to do an interview with real parents,(teen or not) and get an honest view of what it's like to have children and responsibilities rather than try and enhance the desire of young girls into having babies because it looks like so much fun.

This was just such a poor choice for a cover story. There must be someone somewhere doing something more interesting and more positive in the entertainment industry.

I agree that teenage pregnancy should not be glamourised in any shape or form. For average girls who get pregnant, they are not quite so fortunate as to have such a privileged start for their children.

Lot easier for a rich teen to support a baby than the "Normal" teen girls.

Any teen that thinks pregnancy is no big deal needs a reality check. Jamie Lynn is not an average teenage. She's fortunate to have help.

I wonder how this kid will turn out with all this attention.

Spot On! More power to her that her fame & fortune gave her this. I wish her and her family well. It is not something I want my teenage anyperson to think having a baby at any age is a "walk in the park."

I don't like the idea of encouraging teen pregnancy either.

I agree with you on this one. Oh boy, if I ever have kids, especially a girl, I'll put my foot down on so many things!
