Jamie Lynn Spears Releasing Album? Why Not?!

It's been a while since Jamie Lynn Spears has been at the top of the media's radar, and so I was surprised to see her name on the trends list. Turns out it's her birthday. The poster girl for teen pregnancy is no longer a teen. On April 4, 2011, Jamie Lynn Spears turned 20. But this isn't why she's making news. According to Showbizspy.com, Jamie Lynn is planning on releasing a new album.

Of course, naysayers have already sounded off, but in my opinion the idea isn't that bad. Yes, the Spears girls have had more than their share of public spectacle, but initially when they were first introduced to the limelight there was some talent there. And Jamie Lynn did sing the themesong for Zoey 101, even if it was very short. Producers wouldn't completely be working with a blank slate.

It's reported that Jamie Lynn's album is supposed to be country-pop, which seems not only suited to her image but also takes her in a very different direction than her sister. When Jamie Lynn announced her pregnancy at the age of 17 there were a lot of people saying she was going to end up just like Britney, who was in the middle of a public breakdown at the time.

What sets good country music apart from the mediocre the ability to convey a story that wil pull on the heartstrings of the listeners, and Jamie Lynn's life has stories. Stories that so far she has done a better job at dealing with than her sister. Of course, Jamie Lynn Spears does not strike me as being the sharpest knife in the drawer, so she'll most likely have to work with some good song writers and producers, but there's a decent chance she could have some marginal success.

Besides, Jamie Lynn is not a teenager anymore. Her daughter, Maddie, is almost 3, and she deserves a chance to break out of her Zoey 101 shell. Will there always be comparisons to Britney? Of course, they are sisters. Famous or not, sisters almost always draw comparisons, but as long as Jamie Lynn Spears keeps her head together and does her own thing she should do just fine.
