If you're at least forty-something, you probably remember Jane Fonda's workout tapes (no DVDs back then, kids, we're talking Beta and VHS) which came out during the early 80s. I remember them well and nearly threw out my back trying to keep up with her.
Jane was in her forties back then and looked smashing. She inspired many of us to get up off our derrieres and "feel the burn." Since then, Jane has married and divorced the eccentric and very wealthy, Ted Turner, eased back into acting, written a book or two and crossed over into official senior status. She's even had a knee replacement. What else says senior citizen like a hip or knee replacement?
But, Jane Fonda is not your typical seventy-two year old. She's never been the typical anything, for that matter. And that she's now launching another line of health and fitness DVDs for seniors is not surprising. She has held up amazingly well over the years and is a wonderful role model to women in how to look good without stretching your face to the back of your head. Though, she has admitted to having a few nips and tucks here and there, it has been minimal and Jane Fonda has aged relatively naturally, which is quite a miracle in Hollywood.
Jane's two DVDs, entitled, Jane Fonda Prime Time, both contain two, low impact workout routines. One DVD is devoted to walking, while the other is devoted to weight and strength training. Two excellent ways for anyone to get in shape, but it's especially good for us over forty and fifty crowd whose knees and back are begging for low-impact workouts.
Jane Fonda looks incredibly fit for a seventy-two year old on the cover of these DVDs and I can only attribute that to airbrushing. But, even without airbrushing, the woman looks fabulous and fit and continues to be an inspiration to those of us coming up behind her to stay involved in life.
The DVDs are set to be released November 30th, just in time for Christmas. You can bet I'll be snapping up a couple of copies for myself.
