Janeane Garofalo Takes Shots at 'Teabagging Rednecks'

Robert Dougherty
Janeane Garofalo is not the target audience for the new tea party movement, as Garofalo will readily admit. The actress/comedienne is one of the many poster children of the Hollywood liberal left, and has been for years. Garofalo had her own take on the now famous tea party protests against taxes - among other things - that were all over the place this week. As usual, Garofalo's take on the tea parties was sure to delight the left and infuriate the right - who are also known as racists, in Garofalo's view.

During an appearance on Countdown with Keith Olbermann on Thursday, Janeane Garofalo used two very common points/jokes to describe the tea party protests. The first was that anyone who went there to oppose taxes and the President were really racists, and were only mad because a liberal black man was in office.

The second point was a common joke used all week by CNN, MSNBC, and of course The Daily Show and Colbert Report. Not only were the tea party protesters racist to Garofalo, they were "teabagging rednecks."

Teabagging, in case anyone was unfamiliar with crude sex language, is the term used to describe putting a part of the male genitals in someone's mouth. Anyone who didn't live under a rock this week not only heard about the tea party rallies, but also heard them described as teabagging.

Garofalo and the "liberal media" used this term to joke about the rallies all week, when not tearing apart their intent or common sense. Garofalo kept using this joke in a later appearance on the Sirius radio show The Frank DeCaro Show, explaining the term to DeCaro and fellow guest Kristen Chenoweth.

CNN and MSNBC did such a good job with the teabagging gag on their own, Jon Stewart proclaimed that in the Obama administration, they were turning into The Daily Show.

As for Garofalo, who is more expected to make these kinds of jokes than the press, she also solidified her liberal street cred when she talked about snubbing right-wing icons on the set of 24. Garofalo has already had to answer countless questions about being on a show that is pro-torture and is run by right-wingers.

Though she didn't let that get in the way of being on the show, Garofalo drew the line when Rush Limbaugh and Lynne Cheney visited the set. She told The Village Voice that she made sure not to meet them or take pictures with them on that day.

I am from the South and I am so sick of the use of the word redneck. Garafalo's use of the word was derogatory in the extreme. Use of this word has become more and more used as a derogatory word. No one and I mean no one stands up and says this is wrong when anyone uses this word in this way. I hear it from elitists and transplants all the time. All I can think is if I were anyone else but a White male from a small town they wouldn't get away with making these comments. We still live with the legacy of slavery and the fact is the people making those comments don't want us to get past that legacy because they want to beat us down out of existence. Now ask yourself this. How is this any different than any group that's ever been discriminated against? It's not. It's the same. Garafalo is an extremist. She's just a socially acceptable extremist because liberal extremist are trying to stamp traditional conservatives out of existence. It may not be in the direct physical sense but in Garafal

Garafalo is a nutbag looking for attention. I think that all of us "racists" should write to her network and protest her employment on "24". Why would we want to watch a show that pays someone that thinks we are so awful? I don't

The original Boston Tea Party was about "taxation without representation". As a way of increasing revenue, the British Parliament levied a steep tax on imported tea throughout the Colonies at their whim. Today, Congress passes a $700 billion "Bailout Bill" while phone calls coming in from constituents were reportedly a 1,000 to 1 against the bill. We all know what happened next. Guess where all the money is coming from? YOUR TAXES! Our situation now, in my opinion, is a 21st century "taxation without representation" and the true patriots were at these Tea Party rallies protesting a government akin to 18th century British Parliament. And now we have an uninformed, out of touch, elitist actress undermining this movement by injecting racism into the mix.

My response to that would be: "I would rather be a tea bagger than a two bagger like her".

Garofalo is just another hollywood mouth piece trying to push her postion on others. I take offense to many of the things she says. I did not vote for Obama and I can honestly say it wasn't because he is black. I thought the recent tea parties were a great way (and peaceful way) to go out and say what you think. Why are people who don't want to pay outrageous taxes racists? She is a loon who should just zip it. Oh, and by the way, I hope they kill her off on 24 - she sucks!

Sure hope the left/democrats do not support Ms. Garofalo's way of thinking, because it is just unbelievable and ugly. She is certainly uniformed and quite frankly ignorant. This kind of talk is what causes conflict between races. Shame on Keith Olbermann for not confronting her on her views. Hmmm, I wonder if maybe he has the same insane kind of thinking.
