Janeane Garofalo: Tea Partiers Are Racist

Mark Whittington
Janeane Garofalo, currently playing a frumpish FBI computer analyst on the TV show 24, recently opined about the Tea Party protests on MSNBC. Janeane Garafalo did for Barack Obama what the President dare not do; play the race card.

According to the Washington Times:

"'Let's be very honest about what this is about. This is not about bashing Democrats. It's not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about. They don't know their history at all. It's about hating a black man in the White House,' she said on MSNBC's 'The Countdown' with Keith Olbermann Thursday evening. 'This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. There is no way around that.'"

Keith Olbermann did not challenge Janeane Garofalo on these assertions, which is too bad since the actress, former radio talk show host, and left wing activist set herself up for some really pointed questions.

Like, "How many people do you know who went to one of the Tea Parties and who are racist?"

"What was the Boston Tea Party about?" And then one could hammer her if she tried to say, "Taxation without representation" as if the representation part made a difference.

Or, "Is any opposition to the policies of President Obama automatically racism?"

And, since this was MSNBC, "What exactly do you mean by 'teabagging redneck.'" Previously MSNBC on air personalities were making jokes about the Tea Parties, using the term "teabagging" as a allusion to oral sex.

To be conservative in America is to be accused of being "racist", "sexist". "homophobic", or any number of other epithets. It happens so often, that these kinds of accusations have long ago lost their sting.

Janeane Garofalo's performance as "angry, white, female liberal" was an expression of the last acceptable bigotry. Hatred on the bases of race, gender, or even sexual preference is no longer acceptable, which is all for the good. But hatred based on political persuasion is all the rage and is practiced, as noted with Janeane Garofalo, by the Left.

When conservatives engage in political argument, they tend to do so on the basis of issues. Big spending, high taxes, big government, the assault on values, appeasement of foreign dictators, and suppression of civil liberties such as the "fairness doctrine" are wrong and the people who believe in them are silly. The Left tends to engage in political argument on the basis of where in the country their political opponents come from, or their imagined beliefs, or a "neurological problem" as Garafalo suggested in the same interview, or so other kind of personal pique. Rush Limbaugh, for example, is not wrong because his views are wrong. He is wrong because of his weight, his previous problems with prescription pills, or whatever.

Janeane Garofalo is certainly not the only one who indulges in this; not even the only one in Hollywood by a long shot. But Janeane Garofalo is one of the worst offenders. Considering the state of political discourse on the Left, that is saying something.

An Open Letter To Ms. Janeane Garofalo:

Dear. Ms. Garofalo......I am sickened by your "racist" comments, most recently, concerning the "Tea Party".....You Hollywood elitist jerk! The true racists in this country are the people that think "race" matters!!! You obviously are a "racist", because you use "race" as a "hand-grenade"...you just toss it out there in the public forum without the slightest concern for the truth! Guess what, we are not in the "60's" anymore.....most people couldn’t give a crap what "race" someone is....most of us have learned that assholes come in all colors and religions, and creeds....and good people come in all colors, religions, and creeds....where were you when the memo went out...hanging out with your socialist buddies? The sad part is I will never go to see or rent any of your movies again....I have watched every movie you have made....and I think you are a great actress and comedian.....But you are a "racist" because "race" matters to you...grow-up Ms. Garofalo....Race" doesn't matter....By the way.....I am voting for Herman Cain (the tea party candidate).....not because of his color....because he is a good, smart, and honest man......with some great ideas! Hollywood is for fools!

HI everyone, its Janeane here. I just want to help everyone understand me. So, the best way to do that is for me to explain me to you. I am a very complex person but if i had to pick one word to describe me, I would say that I am a CUNT!!!! I HATE AMERICA AND EVERYTHING IT STANDS FOR! I HATE ANYONE WHO EVEN REMOTLEY DISAGREES WITH MY VIEWS. IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME YOU MUST BE A RACIST REDNECK. IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH ME YOU SHOULD BE TAKEN OUTSIDE AND SHOT. DID I MENTION I AM A CUNT? WE DON'T NEED A MILITARY AND I HATE ALL SOLDIERS. 911 WAS OUR OWN FAULTS, I FEEL BAD FOR EVERYONE WHO DIED, WELL I MEAN I FEEL BAD FOR THE MEN WHO WERE FLYING THOSE PLANES. THEY HAVE A POINT AND I FEEL THAT WE DESERVED IT. I FEEL THAT ALL THOSE SO CALLED "AMERICANS" WHO DIED (I HATE THAT WORD, AMERICA , SO MUCH) DESERVED TO DIE, THEY ALL HAD IT COMING. I DON'T THINK DEBATE SHOULD BE ALLOWED, I HATE IGNORANT WHITE TRAILER TRASH! I THINK THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OVER BY THE TALIBAN BECAUSE THEY MOST

    Arlene,

I agree with you completely! It seems unfair that someone such as yourself who has worked so hard to get where you are should be punished with higher taxes. It is as if President Obama wants to punish people for working hard and being successful! And it is disgusting for Garofalo to suggest that people who disagree with Obama are racist. I watched coverage of the TEA parties on TV, and I did not see any racist signs or behaviors!

    Janeane:

I have always been a fan of yours as your sarcastic form of comedy is intelligent and refreshing. However, I was disturbed when I heard you speaking about the tea party attendants. I do believe that you stated that they were "teabagging rednecks" and that this entire protest was about hating a black man as president. This could not be farther from the truth as I am a 40 year old African American women that was raised as a democrat and am now a conservative. I have no problems with an African American being president, obviously, but I do have great concerns about the enormous amounts of my tax dollars being spent without any input from hard working constituents such as myself. I've had to work for every penny that I have earned and find myself living a comfortable life now and am extremely grateful. I do not agree that the government bailing out all economic woes with my tax dollars is the answer and I would like to have a voice. I was offended by your statements. You are no

Why are we listening to whatever this woman has to say? There is a misconception that people in Hollywood have some kind of political expertise. I mean, why are they taken seriously? The only thing most of them know how to do is learn a few lines & pretend to be someone else for a while. (it's acting, that's all).
They always come out and express their liberal opinions on dumb shows from MSNBC and the like. And of course, race has to be included in the discussion so they feel they are kind of defending someone. This is the argument that is most commonly used when there's really no essence in their commentaries. It's unfortunate that people have to listen to such stupid comments. It's sad that this country is moving to the left little by little. :(

Janeane, the Boston Tea Party was about excessive taxes. Not unlike what we're experiencing now. Wasn't it one of your dear friends on the extreme left, current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who said "...We have the right to disagree and debate with ANY administration"... Of course, now that a member of the extreme left is in office you're conveniently playing the race card rather than examining the substance of his policies. We conservatives are not upset that we have a black President. We are upset with his policies. Get a grip. Stick to acting. At least that is something you know a little bit about.

These tea bugs are a nuisance to the harmony of our American society. The only thing they are protesting is the creation of jobs. For your info a "bailout" is a loan and the most ingenious way to inject money into the system when conumers are not purchasing goods or services. Ms. G. as the majority of Americans is tired of the bigotry and whining of the GOP. How about them "Apples".

  • Stinkfinger Willie 4/22/2009

Of course she's right! They only pretend to be misinformed as a way of creating cover for themselves. The fact is that they just don't like being called on it.

  • Dartman 4/21/2009

The original Boston Tea Party was about "taxation without representation". As a way of increasing revenue, the British Parliament levied a steep tax on imported tea throughout the Colonies at their whim. Today, Congress passes a $700 billion "Bailout Bill" while phone calls coming in from constituents were reportedly a 1,000 to 1 against the bill. We all know what happened next. Guess where all the money is coming from? YOUR TAXES! Our situation now, in my opinion, is a 21st century "taxation without representation" and the true patriots were at these Tea Party rallies protesting a government akin to 18th century British Parliament. And now we have an uninformed, out of touch, elitist actress undermining this movement by injecting racism into the mix.

I was at the Columbus Ohio event, and it had nothing to do with racism. She's an out of touch, liberal moron who makes everyone cringe. C U next tuesday!
