January Dinner Plan List

Planning Meals Ahead Can Save You Hundreds of Dollars a Month

Angie Mohr CA CMA
Over the years, I've tried many different methods of grocery shopping and meal planning, trying to strike a balance between getting the best deals and providing nutritious, balanced meals to my family. Throughout 2011, I will post my monthly dinner meal plan along with links to many of the recipes. I hope it inspires you to branch out and pre-plan your family's meals. Always plan based on what you already have. Buy groceries in large quantities when they're on sale, not because you really want to make a certain dish that evening.

These meals are not in order. I will put them into my monthly calendar based on main ingredients. So, for example, I'll make sure I have a chicken dish every week but not three chicken dishes on successive days. Most of the prep for the meals will happen the weekend before and many will be frozen and will just need to be reheated for weeknight meals.

To save the most money, plan to have at least two vegetarian meals every week. I have marked the vegetarian dishes below with a (V).

Never do meal planning and consequently end up making the same ole same ole recipes. These sound interesting.

I do well enough to plan for two weeks mostly because I get tired of the same old thing. You've listed some options here that I'll have to start implementing and maybe I can plan the entire month and save money doing it. Thanks!

"Ambitious" I found the word that was on the tip of my brain! It came to me when I was typing a comment on Crystal Ray's works. :-D

Woo, a month's worth of dinners planned that's pretty (insert word here...on the tip of my brain but still eludes me)!

I'd be lucky if I can plan a week at a time!

I love your ideas. I think I may just borrow a few of your recipes this year if you don't mind.
