January Pansies

Louisa Burgess
Saturday it was eighty-five out
it was enough to make me dance and shout

Overnight the temperature it dropped
thirty degrees it went and plopped

Unpredictable the weather in Texas is no doubt
one or three warm days then a winter freeze comes out

There is nothing ordinary or boring about January here
as you can see by the pansies on the side of the road over there

Pansies in January - how could that be
but there they are under the ice covered tree

Yellow and sunny like the few days before
pansies in the icey rain - on the way to the store

The yellow pansie of Texas..sorry couldn't resist ;-) Enjoyable poem, Louisa! I was briefly inspired to write as I enjoyed watching the bright red cardinal & his bride dance around my snow covered yard.

This makes me hopeful that Spring is almost around the corner. I love the cheery look of pansies :)

Great poem. Alabama and most of central Florida and north are the same. Can't believe the weather!
