Japan Earthquake - Nuclear Reactor Pressure Rising - Emergency Evacuation
Japan Earthquake Puts Nuclear Reactor in Power Plant in Danger
Japan's official's have started a massive evacuation around the nuclear power plant which includes thousands of people. The nuclear power plant is northeast of Tokyo and fears are now growing about radioactive fall out unless the reactor can be cooled.
"A meltdown could lead to a breach of the reactor's steel containment vessel and allow radiation to escape into an outer, concrete containment building, or even into the environment," reports Fox News.
Now that the temperature in the nuclear reactor is rising, the possibilities of a radioactive leak has gotten greater. Kevin Kamps, a nuclear waste specialist from Beyond Nuclear says that "Given the large quantity of irradiated nuclear fuel in the pool, the radioactivity release could be worse than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe of 25 years ago."
Breaking News Fox: The US is rushing coolant to Japan for this nuclear reactor. This is a dangerous situation.
US residents that cannot get in touch with relatives in Japan, can access the State Department website which has been set up for people in the US who cannot get in touch with their loved ones in Japan right now.
Google has also launched a Person Finding Tool to help victims and their families find each other, which is another tool available for US residents to get in touch with their relatives in Japan.
