The Japanese Phrases & Lessons application provides over 2600 Japanese phrases with audio files to help beginners learn how to pronounce the Japanese words.
The home page of the application has a few sections that users can immediately get into. The sections include: Lessons, Study Cards, Flashcards, Quizzes, Study Bank, Search, Random, and OMise.
You can learn basic Japanese in the Lessons section. Information spans anything from hiragana and katakana to Japanese grammar. Specialized lessons, such as counting or the use of family words, are also available.
Study Cards and Flashcards can be used to help you study the many hundreds of Japanese words and phrases available in the application.
After studying some japanese using the built-in Study Cards and Flashcards, you can then quiz yourself. The quizzes are split up in the sections that correspond to the lessons; however, you can also quiz yourself on cards that you have put into the Study Bank. The quizzes come with audio that can help you further pronounce the Japanese words.
In the home page, you can see a Random button. Pressing this button will direct you to a random card that you can learn. This is great for breaking up the monotony of studying card after card of information.
The latest version (2.2.3) was updated February 26, 2010 and includes new sub-categories for the Flashcard and Study Card pages titled Kanji and Kanji Examples. Other updates include hundreds of new card items as well as error fixes.
There is also a free version also available in the iTunes App Store which was updated December 12, 2009. Though it does not include as many cards or updates as the full version, it provides a good-sized overview of what the full version offers. Users who enjoy the free version are encouraged to purchase the full version to get more cards and lessons in Japanese.
Overall, both the free and full versions of Japanese Phrases & Lessons provide an excellent, portable way for people to learn Japanese during their spare time. Download the application today and start learning Japanese!
