Portland, Oregon has a great selection of restaurants. They have something for everyone. I love Japanese food and Portland has a great selection of inexpensive Japanese restaurants. Here are the very best Japanese restaurants in Portland that are also easy on your budget.

Big Dan's west Coast Bento- This is a great Japanese restaurant that is also very inexpensive. Big Dan's specializes in the yakitori bento, which is a Japanese box lunch. For $4 you have a selection of chicken, beef, lamb or shrimp skewers, served with rice. The also have a great vegetarian vegetable curry also served with rice. I love their humbao, it is a steamed bun filled with BBQ pork. Along with all their yummy dishes they have a selection of traditional drinks such as tropical fruit drinks, and iced coffee. Don't expect to find anything as American as soda here. Big Dan's only serves lunch, and is take out only.

Ikenohana- This is a very charming Japanese restaurant that just happens to be located in a strip mall in Beaverton. They have a large menu with many items such as teriyaki, tempura, sushi, and different noodle dishes. I love their chicken katsu, it is the best I have had. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are new to sushi or Japanese food they are very willing to help you out. They are also very reasonably priced and two people can have dinner for under $20.

Marinepolis- This is a fun sushi place located in the Beaverton mall. They have a conveyor belt that circles around the dining area, that you can pick your sushi off of. This is a great option for kids, and adults alike. It nice to see your sushi before you order it, you know exactly what you are getting. If you don't see anything on the conveyor belt that you like, don't worry the kitchen always takes requests. Its nice to be able to choose you sushi this way because you can total your items as you select them so you know exactly how much you are spending.

Sushi Takahashi
- This is a very fun Japanese sushi restaurant. The have a train that drives around the oval sushi bar and delivers food to the customers. You get to choose your sushi from the train, and you are charged per plate. Kids love this place, and it is very entertaining to watch the train. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they have their already low prices are lowered even more. Most plates which include two pieces of sushi is only $1.25. The sushi is very tasty and for the price you can try many pieces that you wouldn't normally be daring enough to try.

Toney Bento- This is a very inexpensive place that have enormous portions. The staff is very friendly and willing to help out newcomers. You can get a very large bowl of miso soup for $2.75, and the have a generous variety of bento lunches for $4-$5. They have both meat and vegetable options witch come with a large amount of rice. The also have a large selection of various sauces to make your dish unique. Everything that I have tried here has been wonderful, and for the price you can't go wrong.

Misohapi- This is a great place to go if you are looking for noodle dishes. They have a large selection of different noodle dishes, that are all very inexpensive. They also have a large selection of skewered meats. If you are there for lunch you can try their bento box which includes soup, salad, and a entree from a list of over 25 selections. They are often crowded with the hospital crowd for lunch, but service is fast and you can always get take out.
