Japan's Lost City: Is it Atlantis?

Atlantis, the lost city (continent), somewhere beneath those secret depths of the ocean. It is a popular myth made into countless novels and movies alike.

Mu is the Japanese's version of Atlantis, a lost continent. It would seem though that they have a leg up on us in the discovery of lost underground cities.

In the waters off of Okinawa, Japan (a mere 60 to 100 feet under the water!) is one of the greatest discoveries, and biggest mysteries. A discovery (made in the mid nineties) which could potentially change the face of past assumptions.

There are structures complete with what appear to be stone terraces, post holes (perhaps for support), clearly visible right angled blocks and walls, hexagonal columns and more! There is even a road that traces around the eight separate points which make up this site! Another amazing similarity is that above the water, on land, are castles near the site. Castles with similar architecture. One site, on a small island further south has five irregular layers that actually resembles platforms. Platforms which would suggest a ceremonial use! All of which seem to suggest some sort of lost city, and even more exciting, a lost civilization with before unrealized technology.

However, scientists aren't willing to jump to conclusions about this supposed lost city just yet, due mostly to the fact that it's very existence and acceptance would rock the world archaeology. It is largely believed that man would not have been as advanced as would be suggested by these buildings if that is what in fact they are. Man at that time would have been hunters and gathers, not a culture which would have used the machines needed to build this. These buildings would have to be aged as much as twelve thousand years old! Which means they would not have been above the ocean since before the end of the last Ice Age subversive element!

With that possibility lurking, there is of course a massive debate as to the fact that these are man made at all, perhaps they came about by natural means. After all, the suggestion that man may have been so advanced that early would be positively astonishing!

Since the oriental civilization is the oldest, it does leave certain doors open to the fact that these are in fact man made. If they are man made, there are other questions to be answered. Who did it? What purpose did it serve?

It's amazing to think that so short a distance under the water lies the potential key to unlock one of history's many mysteries, a true turning point in the history books.
