Though I can't really say that I enjoy watching her cartoons anymore, I do still love her cute little image on clothes, accessories, and toys. However, I do not think that all Hello Kitty items are necessary. Really, does she need to have her own toaster, vacuum cleaner, and, ahem, adult vibrating device? I don't think so.
However, Japan's government has decided to tap into Hello Kitty's extreme marketability and recognizability to encourage tourists. I just feel sorry for her twin, Mimi. I wonder what she's been up to all these years; hopefully she is doing well ad Kitty is generously sharing her income with her.
Although Barbie, America's long time icon doll, has been a mom, doctor, scientist, teacher, astronaut, etc., she has yet to be named an ambassador of tourism. Take that, Barbie!
