Jarrow Rice Protein Powder, Chocolate Flavor, Review

Awhile back ago I reviewed the vanilla flavor of Jarrow brand Rice Protein Powder and you could almost refer to that review equally for the chocolate flavor because the chocolate flavor is almost devoid in this protein powder. So much so I found myself rechecking the container to make sure I bought the one I thought I did.

On this purchase I decided to opt for the chocolate flavor because they were having a sale and the chocolate flavor was a little cheaper than all the other flavors. I am actually glad I didn't get it to satisfy a huge chocolate craving. If I did I would have been incredibly disappointed.

This Jarrow protein powder blends pretty easily into a smooth drink. I find a little battery operated hand mixer helps it blend a lot easier than just a spoon. It does mix up a little grainy but not too bad in comparison to some protein powders I have tried. The little amount of grittiness doesn't bother me.

I normally just add it to plain water to make a drink, instead of making a smoothie, that is one of the reasons I was looking forward to the chocolate flavor. Sadly, the chocolate flavor was lacking greatly, so the flavor is rather bland. One thing I was surprised about was that I kind of expected it to be sweetened, but it is not at all. I don't know why I was surprised as I did read the ingredients ahead of time. I'm not really complaining, but I was surprised. I add a little pinch of stevia to make it taste a little better and that satisfies. On occasion I even add some cocoa powder to make up for the flavor it says it has but lacks.

Jarrow Rice Protein Chocolate Flavor has 12 grams of protein per 2 ½ tablespoons of powder. And somehow this protein powder is a complete protein. There is also just 55 calories and only 8 milligrams of sodium. This powder is also vegan and gluten-free.

I would buy Jarrow's Rice Protein Powder Chocolate flavor again but it would not be for the flavor. I would not pay more for the chocolate flavor either. To me the chocolate and plain vanilla flavor are one the same as flavor goes and none are worth more than the other.
